Surgery, Shots, Virus

Well, to say this week has been busy is definitely and understatement. It started on Tuesday when Blaine had oral surgery and Kayla had her 4 month shots. Blaine went in for a root canal and ended up with a tooth being pulled and bone grafting for his jaw. HUGE ouch! Kayla had 4 shots for her 4 month check-up. She is also having a sensitivity to the kinda expensive formula so we had to switch her to the super expensive formula ($45.50 for 14 oz) Another HUGE ouch! She was feeling better on Friday so I thought I would take her to get her ears pierced. Huge ouch for her. The earring got stuck on the back of the piercing gun and it took a minute to get it out. I must say I would not take her if I had a do over. It was horrible to just listen to her scream while they were trying to get the earring unstuck and then we still had the other ear to do! She did calm down really quickly once they stopped messing with her ear. By Saturday morning she was fine and I could touch them and clean them and they were not puffy.
I was a little late taking her monthly picture in her car seat. It is so fun to see how much she has grown in just 4 months. She is now 10 lbs. 10 oz. and 21 inches long. She is meeting all of her developmental milestones she is just tiny for her age.
She even reaches for her toys and tries to put them in her mouth. She is also rolling over from front to back. The only problem with this is that she sleeps on her tummy. So, in the middle of the night, she will roll over and wake herself up. She goes right back to sleep with her binkie and me flipping her over. I finally found a sleep positioner that keeps her on her tummy and also keeps the blankets on her. Awesome find since it is getting very cold a night!
Well, while I was taking Kayla to get her ears done, Blaine was back at the endodontist for more bone grafting on his jaw and new stitches (they had fallen out too early). Needless to say he has not had a very good week. He does not like pain pills and tries to suffer through the pain, I try to tell him how to control the pain better but he does not listen to me. Typical guy thing I think. He has not been very happy this weekend. I stayed home from work on Saturday to help him but it is very hard to help a grumpy guy out!
Lastly, our computer got a virus from a game that the boys had downloaded to play with their friends online. I had to reboot and reinstall everything and it is still having some glitches. I bought a virus detector and that did get rid of 3 viruses that we did not even know we had. Hopefully the computer will recover soon. If not the Geek Squad will have to be brought in for help in fixing the problem!
Well, have a great week and I will post more later this week. I just have to get pictures of the things I want to post!

Diet

Well, thank you to everyone who said that I still looked really good for just having a baby. I am still thinking that I look fat. I decided that I would do something about it instead of just complaining. So I started a new diet yesterday and we will see how I look in one month. If it is major progress I will tell you about it. Wish me luck!

14 already!

Joshua turned 14 this weekend if you can believe it. I surely can not! I can not believe that my little boy is turning into a man. He has long hair, is taller than me, weighs more than I do, and shaves his face. Not to mention he told me that he is growing hair in other places too! He had such a big week. He went to his first boy/girl party (well supervised), and he got his first girlfriend. He has been on the phone more the past 2 weeks then in his whole lifetime. This is the cake that Cayden and I made. I thought it turned out pretty good. I t was a little dry because I was giving Cayden a hair cut and did not hear the timer go off. Still can you really go wrong with chocolate?
He blew out all but one candle on the first try. Maybe next year his wish will come true.
He wanted about $600 worth of presents. Instead he got the third book of the Eragon series, a collectable Mustang Shelby, and a 22 (for those not into guns, it is a gun). He was so excited to get everything. He even woke up early on Sunday to open his presents. When they were all opened, he went back to bed. We were fasting and church is not until 1 pm so he figured sleeping was a good option to eating. After sacrament, Blaine ordained him to a teacher. He is such an example to his brothers and sister. We are so thankful to have a son like him. He may have long hair and not turn in his homework regularly but he is a good kid.
Cayden and I had some Mommy and Me time and we took some silly pictures of ourselves. Cayden loves to take pictures and this is what he wanted to do. We had fun just being at home and being silly. Then we read a book and Kayla woke up.
This is Blaine being what he thinks is cool. I think it is scary. Kayla is starting to hold her head up better so Blaine likes to balance her on his hand. I think it is a guy thing. She does not seem to mind it so I gently remind Blaine that our baby is not a balancing toy.

Well...

So, I have still not quite gotten the hang of how the pictures will show up on the page after I up load them. All of these pics are out of order but I am too tired and lazy to delete and redo all of them. I am up way past my bedtime (10 pm).
We decided to bless Kayla over Labor day weekend so that all of the family that had to travel could have plenty of time to do so. We gave everyone plenty of notice (2 months) so that all could plan for this event. Well, it did not turn out that all I wanted to come could come. For some reason we could not plan the weather or the Jerry Lewis telethon weekend or financial emergencies. My parents own a plane and were going to fly up but, there was suppose to be a huge storm that weekend and they did not want to fly in the rain. To quote my dad, "I am just not as daring as I used to be." So they could not come. My brother ended up being in charge of telephone and volunteer services for the Jerry Lewis telethon that same weekend so he could not be out of town, he lives in Mesa. Another brother was just too poor at the moment and could not afford to take time off and come. My sister was the only one of my family that was able to make it. I was really sad that they could not come and share this special day with me. Kayla is our last child and I really wanted more of my family to come. Fortunately for me, I have the best family in law. Blaine's family is so great when it comes to getting together for family events. There were only three people that were not there from his family. So her blessing was very well attended. Since we had everyone here for the entire weekend we did many fun things. Saturday we went with Blaine's family on a hike to Dog Lake. Here are all of the grownups sitting at the lake watching the kids swim. Blaine thought it was a 2 mile hike. It ended up being a 5 mile hike. We had so much fun just spending time with everyone and chatting that we did not even mind the long walk most of the time.
Kayla's blessing dress. I have always dreamed of having a daughter wear a beautiful and long blessing dress like in the old days. I found this one and fell in love with it. She was so beautiful, I cried while I was getting her dressed.
Blaine's Mom was walking out of the canyon after our hike and fell. This was the sad part of our get together. She broke her wrist in several places and bruised up her face and legs. She was so sad that she could not hold Kayla on her blessing day. She was in so much pain. I really felt bad that there was not much I could do to help her feel better. I did let her sleep in my favorite recliner since it was difficult for her to lay flat.
Aubrey, Trey and Corbin were fighting to see who got to feed Kayla her bottle. We comprimised and they all got to hold the bottle at the some time. See how happy it made them?
This is how our week statred. SLOWLY! Cayden usually eats in his pajamas and watches Dora while I feed Kayla and then we all get dressed.
The little boys were having so much fun on the hike. They played together so well. I was surprised how goo they were walking that whole way. Thay did not complain very much. I think I complained more then Cayden did.
Kayla was so lucky! She got to be carried the entire hike. I think she had fun. She is such a good baby, she did not fuss much until she was hungry and the bottles were up ahead for her so she had to wait for 15 minuteas to eat. Not easy when your attention span is not even a minute.
Friday Cayden, Kayla and I went to the zoo with my sister and her family. Here is the baby giraffe that was born last November. I am glad that my one year old will not be that tall!!

Cayden and I took pictures of each other while we were on the train at the zoo. I love his cheesy smile!

This was the begining of our Labor Day weekend. Jared fell off of his skateboard on Thursday night and broke his tooth and scraped up his face. he broke so much of his tooth off that the nerve was exposed. We spent Friday morning at the 911 dentist office so he sould get it fixed. He will need a root canal and a crown within the next 4 years. I am hoping that he does not need one sooner then that!

This is the thing that I could not live without in my home. My magnetic whiteboared calender from Pottery Barn. It was a bit expensive but so worth every penny. Every person has a different color of marker. This way I know who has to be where when. It is the only way I make it everywhere without forgetting. If it is not on the calender then we forget it.

This is the thing I hate about my house. I do not like being able to see the TV from the kitchen table. I like to have the family get together at dinner and talk. Now all we do is watch TV while we eat. At least we do silence it for the prayer!

Three Whole Months!

Kayla was 3 months old on August 27. It has been such a fast three months. She is growing so fast I can hardly believe how much she has changed in just a short time. this past month we have had so many firsts with her. We did mom and daughter pedicures (my husband and many friends thought I was totally crazy!), we had her blessing, we went to our first ward activity as a family (it was a picnic at the park), I bought her first hair bows ( I did not realize how expensive this was), and she hangs out in her swing without crying now! I finally figured out how to do the collage thing and thought it would be cute to have pics from her 3rd month all together!

and they are off!

For the past three weeks we have been doing the first day of school thing. First was Cayden. He started preschool at someone's home with one of his friends from church. Next was Jared. He started his 6th grade year at a new school they was just finished being built. Last was Josh, he started his eighth grade year at the same junior high he went to last year. They all had their own things that were important to them. Cayden had to have a really cool new backpack. We looked at 3 different stores before he found the perfect Spiderman backpack. He would not put it down all morning until he got to go to preschool. (Preschool does not start until 12:30 pm so he wore it for several hours.) Jared had to have the perfect backpack and a new set of clothes for the first day. For all of you that really know me, my kids have at least 20 complete outfits each so they never really NEED a new set of clothes because I buy them throughout the year whenever things are on sale. He really wanted Tony Hawk clothes and they were on sale so I could justify the expense. Josh did not really care about clothes. As long as he had a backpack and new shoes he was a happy boy. These pictures are all from the first day of school for each boy. As you can see, Josh's shirt has a hole in the sleeve and his hair is not combed. He really does not care what others think about his clothes, just his shoes.
